IntroductionSailing ones boat from Dover through the French canals to the Med. is nothing new. It's being done daily by no end of sailing enthusiasts, and loads of books have been written on the subject. many of them simply for profit and some as reference material and commissioned by publishing houses. My Home Page contains details of the lead up to the trip that my wife and I made. It is not intended to be any form of reference material but will perhaps provide the potential explorer with some encouragement and information on some aspects of the trip. I hope that it will provide some light hearted and interesting reading for those planning the trip and might even inspire those that think they are too old (join the wrinkly brigade) or lack the necessary experience to take the plunge...It could be one of the more enjoyable and rewarding trips of your lifetime and should not be missed. At this time I would like to say thanks to the skippers and crews of three particular boats. It was shortly after entering the canal system that we (BABS IV) were fortunate to meet some very nice and helpful British Boaters of many years experience who encouraged us, and spent time with us advising us where and when to moor up, and a younger couple Kate and David from "The Isle of Dogs" on their first trip in their beautiful new Dutch Cruiser, who did their utmost to encourage us to linger in the canal system and not to dash through to the Med. To all of them we would say a very special hello and a big "Thank You"! (and to Kate and David, we were so impressed that we now also have a Dutch Steel) ! To find out who we are please click here |
