THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE EXTORTIONATE AND THE AFFORDABLE

My wife and I are fair weather sailors and not the types who only go out when there is a howling gale and steep seas requiring the use of safety harnesses,oilies and yellow wellies. Though I do insist that we both wear automatic life jackets, in case of accidental MOB. We get no pleasure from courting danger and prefer to wait it out , pay our dues, start up engines and cruise at a gentle pace enjoying the view of the ever changing coast lines.

We normally travel in the region of 40 miles a day depending on how kind the seas are and how we happen to be feeling on that particular day, and based basically on the theory, that if the skies look kindly at 0700 hours we will probably have similar weather until lunch time. On our first visit to the Med we learned the hard way, that the weather almost always changes at around mid-day and it usually blows. Great for the "stick and rag brigade. "But we don't enjoy it.

Only use the weather forecasts down there as a general guide.

Because of this approach to cruising we missed some of the marinas on our way South&West, but I expect to be able to make comment on those that we missed after the voyage back up the coast.
